Ariana Grande has changed a familiar lyric in thank u, next during recent performances, drawing attention to her current relationship with former boyfriend Ricky Alvarez.
During a Brooklyn stop on the Eternal Sunshine tour, Grande replaced the original line about Alvarez with wording that suggested the two continue to find their way back to each other. The change followed similar lyric updates at earlier shows, including one attended by Alvarez.
Grande and Alvarez dated before ending their relationship in 2016. In the original version of thank u, next, released in 2018, she described their relationship as something she could look back on with humor. The new live lyric gives the moment a different tone, though neither Grande nor Alvarez has publicly confirmed that they are dating again.
The pair have recently been seen spending time together, which has added to public interest in the lyric change. For now, the updated line remains part of Grande’s live performance rather than an official revision of the recorded song.
